Programme Overview

The next decade is going to witness a profound transformation in the mobile communication infrastructure. The aim of interconnecting everything everywhere has unleashed new visions such as autonomous vehicles, factory of the future, and augmented reality. Advanced concepts in electromagnetic wave propagation are the key to design new radio access networks making ubiquitous connectivity a reality.

WaveWiCom is a one-year master's programme (M2) taught in English to train high-skilled electrical engineers ready to work in research and innovation for wireless communication systems. It covers advanced topics in computational electromagnetics, antennas and radiofrequency devices, wireless communication technologies, propagation channel, and electromagnetic compatibility. Regular contacts with researchers through personally tailored projects as part of the curriculum will help interesting students in pursuing a PhD.

Entry Requirements & Admissions

Who can apply?

Students having successfully passed a first-year master's (M1), or holding a 4-year Bachelor, in the field of Electrical Engineering with sufficient prerequisites in antenna and waveguide theory, microwave theory, electronics fundamentals, signal modulation, and a strong mathematical background.

How much does it cost?

Tuition fees for the academic year 2022/23 (should be similar in 2023/2024):

  • For French and European students (nationals of a member country of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Andorra or Switzerland), students who are residents of Quebec or international students who hold a long-term residence card: Tuition charges will be €245 (+100€ for campus life contribution), which cover social security cost
  • For non EU-students, the total registration fee is €3,770 per year. However so far, Sorbonne Université has always compensated for the differentiated cost so that non-EU-students fees are €245 (+100€ for campus life contribution).
  • No tuition fees for:
    • Students who come to study in France as part of a partnership agreement between universities that provides for total exemption from enrolment fees (like the Erasmus+ exchange program in particular)
    • Students who have been awarded a French government grant (BGF)
    • Students who have been awarded a grant from their host institution, providing for total exemption from enrolment fees.
  • Partial or total exemption for non-EU students who have been granted full or partial exemption from tuition fees by their host institution in France or by the French embassy in their home country.
When and where to apply?
  • French and European students (nationals of a member country of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Andorra or Switzerland), students who are residents of Quebec or international students who hold a long-term residence card have to apply on eCandidat (website usually open only during the application period from March 28 to June 13, 2024). Once connected on eCandidat, apply to the "Systèmes Communicants" programme. When filling the Lime survey, select then the WaveWiCom international programme.
  • Students residing in one of the countries affected by the "Etudes en France" procedure (check the list here) have to apply on this web site from November to March (check on your local delegation, deadlines are often in January). Please select “Sorbonne Université” > “Sciences et Ingénierie” > “Taught in English” > “Master indifférencié” > “EEA - Waves and Devices for Advanced Wireless Communication Systems année 2”.
  • Students  who are neither from the European Union nor from the countries affected by the "Etudes en France" procedure (check the list here) have to apply on eCandidat (application period from March 28 to June 13, 2024). Once connected on eCandidat, apply to the "Systèmes Communicants" programme. When filling the Lime survey, select then the WaveWiCom international programme.
